We all know that games and fun learning activities are more conducive to meaningful learning experiences and a higher level of students engagement and participation. This is even so with subjects that are notoriously known for being dry and boring such as math.



In this post, I share with you a wide variety of resources where you can search for and find fun math games to use with your students in and out of class. These games are ideal for students in different grades from preschool to grade 8.  They also cover various math skills including multiplication, division, fraction,  geometry, and many more.


1. Cool Math Games

Cool Math Games offers access to a wide range of free math games that help students sharpen their mathematical skills. These include free thinking, strategy, and logic games. Cool Math games are student friendly and can be used in school and at home. Cool Math games target various learning skills and cognitive competencies. 
Math games are arranged into various categories including: Strategy, Skill, Numbers, Logic, Trivia, and more. Although its title indicates otherwise, Cool Math Game website is not limited to only math challenges, it also offers mini-games spanning different subjects and content areas including memory games, jigsaw puzzles, science games, geography-based games, classic games, among others.

2. Prodigy Math Game

Prodigy Math Game allows students to build math skills though standards-aligned game designed for students 1st to 8th grade. Prodigy also offers online tutoring done by classroom teachers. The free version of the site offers access to 50.000 questions and over 1000 curriculum aligned skills. ‘As students play Prodigy Math Game, curriculum-aligned math questions adapt to match their individual progress. Prodigy offers an engaging in-game experience while students practice important math skills required for their grade level.’

3. Math Playground

Math Playground is an educational website that offers a wide variety of math games, videos and interactive activities for students in kindergarten to grade six. The games are organized by subject and grade level and some of them are aligned to Common Core Standards. Math Playground games cover different topics including fraction games, division games, multiplication games, ratio games, pre-algebra games, geometry games, and more.

4. SplashLearn Math Games

SplashLearn offers a huge collection of fun and interactive online math games. You can search for games by grade (from Pre-K to grade 5)or by topic. Use the left sidebar to browse through math topics. For instance, some of the topics covered include number sense, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, algebra, word problems, time, addition, and more. Each topic includes a number of subtopics. 
For example, number sense is broken down into number recognition, number sequence, counting, writing numbers, compare and order numbers, skip counting, even and odd numbers, and place value. You need to have an account with SplashLearn in order to start using their games.

5. Primary Games

Primary Games offers a wide variety of fun learning games to help learners practice math concepts and skills. Math games are arranged by grade level (Pre-K to 6) and by skill topic. Skills covered include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, counting, money, time, patterns, fractions, measurement, number sense, and geometry.

6. Math Games

Math Games provides access to a large collection of online games and printable worksheets that helps kids learn math while having fun. The site also allows teachers and parents to design custom assignments that target specific math skills. Math Games also offers on-demand videos to help those having problems with math skills. 
Each time a students gets 3 wrong answers, they are automatically provided with a video tutorial to help them find solutions. Learning games on Math Games are for students Pre-K to grade 8. Examples of feature math games include Math Slither, Math Agar, Mathimals, Math vs monsters, Cat Wars, Sticklets, Number Worms, Math Invasion and many more.

7. Math Games by Mr Nussbaum

Mr Nussbaum has this interesting collection of fun online math games to use with your kids and students. Most of these games come with instructional videos and other resources to help learners play the game. Math games are organized by grades (grade 1 to grade 6). Examples of popular math games on Mr Nussbaum include Great American Multiplication Challenge, The Legend of Multiplico, Sir Math a Lot’s Haunted Mansion, Tony Fraction’s Pizza Shop, Clockworks, Cashout, Treasure Cliff, and many more.

8. Math Playground

Math Playground is an educational website that offers a wide variety of math games, videos and interactive activities for students in kindergarten to grade six. The games are organized by subject and grade level and some of them are aligned to Common Core Standards. Math Playground games cover different topics including fraction games, division games, multiplication games, ratio games, pre-algebra games, geometry games, and more.
Math Playground, the premium version, enables teachers to create classes and assign games to students. Using their credentials, students can sign in to class and access the assigned games. Unfortunately, Math Playground does not offer performance tracking tools and progress reports. The games are ideal for mere math practice.

9. ABCya Games

ABCya is a website that provides free learning games for kids in grades Pre K through 6. ABCya learning Games are organized by grade and subject area and cover a wide array of topics including math, typing, literacy, pattern recognition, word formation, and more. kids can play ABCYa for free, however, the free version supports ads and some of these ads can be annoying. The premium version is ad-free. Kids can play games using their keyboard or mouse (not the best option for kids with hand mobility issues!).
ABCya games are appropriate for kids from different grade levels. The platform itself is simple and easy to navigate. However, Kids might need some guidance from teachers or parents on how to locate games. ABCya does not offer much help in this regard. Teachers can use ABCya games in various educational activities including in teaching writing, reading, social studies, science, math practice, typing practice, and more.

10. Room Recess Math Games

Room Recess offers a wide range of fun math games to help kids learn and practice math skills such as fractions, decimals, place value, geometry, integers, rounding, computation, problem solving, and many more. As students play math games, they get instant feedback on their performance usually as a percentage or a letter grade. Room Recess also offers free math worksheets ideal for elementary students.

11. Reflex Math

Reflex Math is a game-based learning platform that helps students become math fact fluent. Reflex games are interactive and fast-paced providing students with a fun and motivational environment to gain math fact mastery starting from the initial acquisition of previously known facts all the way to automaticity. As students play the games, they receive rewards and tokens for their effort and progress. Teachers and parents can use Reflex reporting system to track students progress and monitor their fluency gains.

12. Math Games by Education.com

Education.com has this large library of math games for students from preschool to grade 8. You can filter games by grade, popularity, relevance, math topic, or date published. “Whether your little learner is just starting to recognize numbers, count, and solve simple addition and subtraction problems, or they’re diving into beginning algebra, geometry, and numbers with fractions and decimals, Education.com has a game to challenge your child’s skills wherever they are on the math journey. 
To get started, try choosing a game that reviews a subject they’ve already learned to give them some extra practice. Once their minds are warmed up and their basic skills sharpened, challenge them to take the plunge into learning a new skill. You might be surprised at how quickly your child can learn while they’re focused on winning the game!”

13. Digipuzzle

Digipuzzle is a website that offers a wide variety of free online educational games for kids. These games target various skill areas from math and geography to science and human body. Digipuzzle games will help kids enjoy their learning while having fun. Games have simple layouts containing just the basics in terms of visual graphics and animations thus providing kids with a distraction-free environment where they can focus on the gamified learning taking place within the game.
